Resources and Nonrenewable Resources

...Colombia has a rich abundance of resources, from land, to gold. But, even though they are resources, some of them can not be used again. Resources that can not be used again are called nonrenewable resources.
...Colombia has many nonrenewable resources including gold, coal, cocaine, petroleum, copper, rock salt, marble, limestone, and highly prized emeralds, just to name a few.
...An important resource to Colombia is gold. Gold in Colombia has been around for quit some time; gold deposits in the west-central part of Colombia have been important since around 1525! In some places where gold is found there is also silver and platinum.
...Colombia's biggest resource of all is coal. Coalfieds in La Gajira (in picture) are the biggest in all of northern South America.

...Colombia has so many nonrenewable resources, however, it doesn't have as many renewable resources. There are only a few, some of them are rich agricultural lands, rivers, animals, and rainfall. The rivers are a big part of hydroelectric power. (In picture)
...Hydroelectric power is energy made by driving force of water. (hydroelectricity)

Exports and Imports

...In 2006, Colombia was the U.S.A's fifth-largest exporter in the Western Hemisphere. The first were Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela. It was also the largest agricultural export market in the Western Hemisphere after North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) countries. It is the 28th largest exporter for U.S products worldwide.
...Colombia's major exports are petroleum, coffee, coal, and nickel. Other, not so popular, exports are cut flowers, gold, bananas, semiprecious stones, sugear and tropical fruit.
...The U.S is Colombia's biggest trading partner. They are about 40% of Colombia's exports and about 30% of their imports. Europe, Japan and the Andean countries are also important trading partners to Colombia
...Mining, manufacturing industries and oil attract the greatest U.S investment.

...Many of Colombia's imports, unlike its exports, are processed or manufactured goods.
...Developed countries make most of Colombia's imports. Some imports include data processing, telecom, sausages and cured hides.
...The Colombian government has banned imports of livestock and related things from Ecuador and Venezuela for six months because there is said to be a foot-and-mouth disease there. Items like cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and other things are banned from entering the country.
...However, sausages and cured hides were exempted from the ban.
...Colombia also put similar bans on imports from Argentina and Brazil in February for the same reason.

Mining

...Colombia has a good amount of mineral and energy resources, especially coal and natural gas reserves.
...In 2005 Colombia was the largest producer in Latin America of coal and ferronickel. It historically has been the world's biggest producer of emeralds, even though production of them hasn't been so good in previous years.
...Colombia is also a significant producer of gold, silver and platinum.

Resource Management

...Colombia is the kind of country that thinks environmental management is important. Therefore, it is one of the head countries for it.
...It is one of the first countriest in the region that organized environmental administration along water boundaries, made a system of pollution taxes, and they required environmental impact surveys for large construction projects, and began legal remedies against polluters.

...Despite their attempts for environment changes, Colombia still faces serious environmental and natural resource challenges. In some places there is bad air, and/or river pollution. Most solid and dangerous waste is dumped illegally or in facilities without enough controls. Farming (in picture), ranching and logging have played a part in very quick deforestation and soil degredation.

Reuse, Recyle, Reduce

...Colombia, I assume, recycles as much as they can. They try to be environmental friendly by making their packaging items recyclable. However, I haven't found much information on this subject, so I can't say for sure.

Resource Pressures

...Water therapy, which is a treatment for muscular, bony problems etc., uses a large amount of water. Of course, Colombia has a lot of water, but they also have a lot of citizens too. Many of the citizens take this kind of therapy, not just for any muscular problems, but for reduction of stress etc. in the neck and back. Also, water is being exsesively used because of Colombian weather. However, I couldn't find much on the subject.
